The Winters Tale
11th hour

Right well, I can’t say for certain the winters tale is still running, I can’t find any damn details on the net, no company website, no listing, jack, and I’m pretty dern sure beat’s about to be packed with fringe rubbish so I’ll keep this short.
My biggest criticism of the 11th hours winters tale is of Shakespeare himself. Sorry Billy, but that ending has just got to go. He killed her, he can’t have her back no matter how many enchanted statues you throw at us in the last ten minutes. It feels like an American re write, take it out.
Yes I know Bills dead, doesn’t mean he can’t take a bit of advice.
That said, the play is entertaining, light, a fairytale, and that’s how 11th hour tackle it. A little girl sits alone in her room and reads the characters to life. It’s not a brilliantly original idea, but its at least a familiar one. Puts you in that wizard of oz place.
There’s always been something a little off putting for me abut the 11th hour. It’s one of those indy theatre companies that came out of pro theatre makers so they’ve got David Tredennick and Greg Stone up there on stage. Its not something your average independent theatre company can compete with.
Hmm, this was supposed to be a positive review. I did enjoy myself
They’re great, let s not beat about the bush. Everything they do is confident and self assured and professional. They’ve got their own theatre for crying out loud. The acting, the direction, the design, it s all professional and very entertaining. If that’s your thing, great.
I really go to theatre for more than just entertainment i think. I’ve got cartoons on dvd for that.
